Frequently Asked Questions

HOW TO ORDER CUSTOM-MADE LASER-CUT TEMPLATES?

1. Print, complete and email or post  this Custom Order Form (PDF)​ 
2.  Also email or post a copy of your pattern or drawing. Draw a 1 inch square, onto each page, for accurate sizing.
3. Specify the colour, markings and etchings you require on the template. (See our Order Form for variation ideas).
4. Advise your required deadline date for receipt, and I'll let you know up front if that date can realistically be met.
5. We will send a confirming email, within 2-3 (excluding weekends), together with an "Obligation free" quoted price to make the template/s.
6   You confirm the quote to us, then pre-pay via Paypal or direct credit to our bank account (listed on quote)
7.  Once payment is confirmed, we will custom-make your templates  (generally with 7-10 business days, unless the order is large or complex).
8. Unless otherwise advised, we will  post templates to you in a padded bag, via ordinary mail.  After making time,  delivery from Australia is generally 1 week (within Australia), 1-2 weeks (to New Zealand), 2-3 weeks (to US) 3-6 weeks (Canada), or 4-10 weeks (to UK / Europe).  However, unexpected delays can occur in different countries, so no estimate is guaranteed.


HOW TO ORDER VIA EMAIL?

1.  Scan your drawing, design or pattern, and save it as either .PDF, .JPG, .TIF or a .DXF file. 
2.  Please draw a  one-inch square for scale on each page before scanning.
3.  Email this as an attachment to: ​SunsetSeams@hotmail.com.
4.  Or, describe the pattern shape in specific detail, and provide measurements for angles and length / width (in inches, or centimetres). 
5.  Please advise your LOCATION / CITY / COUNTRY so we can estimate the Postage costs.


HOW TO ORDER VIA MAIL?

1.  Make a photocopy of your pattern (see above).  
2.  Please draw (in pencil) an accurate one-inch square for scale onto each page of the pattern before copying or scanning
3.  Post to "Sunset Seams", at PO Box 221, ELWOOD, Victoria, Australia, 3184.
4.  Please also email us at SunsetSeams@hotmail.com so we can expect your letter

  WHAT IS THE MINIMUM ORDER?

1.  ONE!  Yes, we are happy to take small orders, as this is a service for everyone, including the "at-home" Quilter / Crafter!  (Minimum price for small orders is $20 AUD + postage).
2.  If you order 5 or more of the same template set, for postal delivery to the same address, we offer a 15% discount on the net price (excluding postage costs).


HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

1.  We offer competitive, reasonable rates.  Customers are pleasantly surprised at how affordable we are!
2.  For new Custom Orders, there may be a minimum Set-Up Fee of between $30 - $60 AUD per order, (regardless of the size of the the template),  plus Template Cost Plus Packing/Postage.  This fee covers the time involved in scanning, conversion via AutoCAD and computer-based set-up tasks required for each new template set.  (If you are able to email your pattern in .DXF format, then the set-up fee may be waived).
3.  The quoted template price depends on the number of pieces, the complexity of the shapes, and the quantity of acrylic used, 
4.  Shipping is calculated on the estimated size and weight of completed templates, packaging and reinforcement if required, destination postcode.   and is based on ordinary Air-Mail mail rates. 
5.  If the final packed weight requires less postage than estimated, we will refund the extra (> $3 AUD) to your Paypal account.
6.  Shipping also includes an amount to cover the costs of packaging materials & reinforcement. (We pack carefully!)
7.  Express Post may be available on request, at the usual Australia Post rates.


WHAT IS YOUR RETURNS POLICY?

1.  Templates are laser-cut based upon the corresponding pattern and/or instructions provided by you.  Whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of the templates, in the conversion process some small errors can occur.
2.  If  we have made a mistake and you are not satisfied with any of the pieces, please advise me by email within 7 days of receipt.   Then return the templates (posted at your cost), and we will happily provide a substitute piece, free of charge (posted at our cost).
3. As each order is "customised" and "personalised", just for you, unfortunately it is not possible for us to provide a refund if you have changed your mind, or provided incorrect instructions, as we would not be able to on-sell it to another customer.  Thank you for understanding.
4.  We are not able to be responsible for additional customs or duty costs applied at the destination 
5.  We take great care to pack the templates very well, to ensure they are safely padded and protected during the postal journey. 
6.  Once the templates have left our premises, we are not responsible for items accidentally broken or damaged by the postal system during transit.




LIMITATIONS

1.  Maximum size:  While we can physically laser-cut any size up to 800 x 500 mm, we generally limit our maximum posting size to templates pieces which fit between a 12 in x 12 inch square. With sufficient reinforcement,  templates of this size will usually travel through the postal system safely (even internationally), and arrive in one piece. (We cannot be responsible nor replace items broken in transit).  Exceptions may be made for local customers (in Melbourne), or multiple quantities for Teachers or Quilt Guilds, which are boxed, and posted within Australia.
2. We do not provide or sell patterns, or provide quilt-making instructions, nor fabric requirements (unless specified in the listing).  In most cases when you buy a template set, you will need to buy, or already have, your own copy of the pattern obtained from another source.
3. We do not have mass production capabilities, so requests for very large multiples of template sets may not be able to be accommodated.    Therefore,  we encourage and support patronage of your LQS (local quilt store) for standard-sized, mass-produced templates & rulers which are already commercially available. 
4.  We do not directly copy Acrylic Rulers or Acrylic Templates that are already available from other  stores. 
5.  We reserve the right to decline to accept a particular custom request, at our discretion, depending on our current and future workload.
6.  We can make a limited range of Rulers, however the numbers and lines will be etched or engraved, and not printed, as per commercial rulers.

7.  We are not able to mass-produce large quantities of templates, so our ability to offer wholesale discounts is limited.   Each template piece is individually laser-cut and polished, and costs us the same in resources and time, regardless of the quantity. 
8.  From time to time not all 6 Acrylic Colours may be available.  So please advise your 2nd choice.
